I have always had a passion for lingerie. Ever since I was old enough to go bra shopping on my own I have spent my money on the prettiest lacy goods I could get my hands on. And this for me was never about boys. This was something that I felt good about wearing and buying for myself. The first lingerie set that I really adored from memory was from La Senza (mainstream because I had never heard of many other brands. It was this or M&S). It was a pink silk bra and knickers set that had a gorgeous yellow lace overlay. It was bold and colourful and made me feel wonderful!
Since then my collection grew. That was my treat to myself every couple of months, to buy a new set that I loved. Again they were from mainstream high street shops because internet shopping wasn’t as popular as it is today. Slowly I began to find out about other brands and other lingerie styles.
Today I follow many, many brands online and lust over gorgeous pieces on a daily basis. I get asked frequently if I still buy lingerie. I mean yes I design and make lingerie but it is such a treat to myself to indulge in some shopping and buy something I have had my heart set on for a while.
For me lingerie is something that makes me feel good. It makes can make me feel confident, cheeky, playful or fully dressed. It can be amour for the day ahead. If I am feeling relaxed and having a chilled day then a cute tulle and applique lace bralette and knickers would be my go to for feminine lounge wear. Or if I am feeling like a sultry siren I’d opt for the whole works, bra, knickers, suspender belt, stockings and heels. Lingerie can also help you put on an act or display. Anything mildly burlesque styled and suddenly I feel empowered to bring out my own fiery alter ego.
Many people have said that lingerie is the foundation of your whole outfit. Weather it is shape wear, comfortable wear or something sexy. It has a purpose. And there is absolutely nothing wrong in that purpose being to make you feel good! Lingerie is fashion. And fashion is a way of expressing one’s self.
When you are wearing a matching set of lingerie do you feel more ‘put together’? This can have an effect on your self confidence for the day. If I put on a well fitting matching set and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror I think ‘Hell Yeah’ and feel proud and ready to take on the day. I tend to feel a little disheveled if I am wearing comfy but unattractive granny pants and non matching bra. And believe you me this happens more often than I’d like to admit!
So tell me how does your current lingerie collection make you feel? Does it need improving? Is it already fabulous? Do you hate the thought of having to go lingerie shopping? Or do you feel at your most comfortable and confident in simple and not overtly sexy designs? Let me know!
